Sex In The Bible For my book report I chose the topic of sex in the Bible. I thought that it would be a very interesting topic because in many churches discussion of sex and sexuality is taboo. I thought that by reading this book I could become more informed of what the Bible truly says on the subject. I also chose this topic because I felt that it would be easier reading a book about the bible on a topic I was interested in. Most subjects pertaining to the Bible are not interesting to the average teenager, and I felt this book would be fun to read. The name of the book was Sex in the Bible by Michael R. Cosby. Cosby discusses five parts of the bible in which sexual relations are discussed. First he discuses the laws that apply to sex in the Hebrew culture according to the book of Dueteronomy. Secondly he discuses the wisdom advice of the book of proverbs. Cosby then discuses the actual act of sex in the book of songs. Next he writes about the topic of sex and sexuality in the synoptic gospels. Finally he discusses sex in the books of Corinthians and Paul's letters to the Romans. Cosby's goal is to interpret the true beliefs of the early Jews and Christians. The book of Deuteronomy is a book of laws directed for the Hebrew. They are laws given to them by their god Yahweh. The book of Deuteronomy has several rules and laws pertaining to sex. The book was written within a society that was very male oriented. Thus the book makes the assumption that the wife is property of the husband. This did not give the husband the right to treat his wife as a slave, however only he had the option of divorce, and he only had the option of verifying his wife's virginity. The basic two principles behind the laws of sex in Dueteronomy are that: sex was to be only had in the confides of marriage, and that the women must be a virgin going into the marriage. Pertaining to the act of premarital sex, either by free will or by force, the punishment is death by stoning. If it turns out that the women was raped, then that man which committed the crime will be forced to marry the women, and is forbidden to divorce her ever. As far as a women not being pure when she is married, Dueteronomy says that the husband has the right to bring this claim to his new wife's father. If the accusation is true than the women will be stoned to death in front of her father's house. Having an impure daughter was an ultimate disgrace to a father, in that it was his resposibility to prevent that. If the claims turned out to be false then the husband was beat in public and charged one hundred coins to be given to the bride's father. There are also several other topics involving sex that are mentioned Deuteronomy. The act of polygamy is considered an acceptable practice, and in many cases expected. Under Hebrew law if a man died his brother was obligated to take his brother's widowed wife's hand in marriage. If the brother were already married then it would be expected of him to now have two wives. There are two other laws mentioned in Deuteronomy that are seen as sins to Yahweh, but are not punishable by death. Those two acts would be prostitution, and transvestitism (or the act of men dressing like women and vice versa). These acts, although not punishable by death, were seen as sins by God, and anyone who partook in the act of prostitution or transvestitism would be accursed. Moving on, Cosby goes to the book of Proverbs. Proverbs, unlike Dueteronomy, does not dive laws about sex, but rather advice about it. Proverbs is not based on a covenant motif but rather on accumulated wisdom that has resulted from many years of observation. It is similar to Deuteronomy in that it addresses a great number of different aspects of life, but the way it is presented is much different. There is no emphasis on the Hebrew people's covenant with God. In fact proverbs is not specifically written for the Hebrew people, but rather as advice for the people of all nations. Six Amendment essays From the Federal Crimes Act of 1790 to Miranda v. Arizona 364 U.S. 436 (1966) the Sixth Amendment right to counsel had developed tremendously. This essay will explore the development of the Sixth Amendment, including what the Sixth Amendment is and when it applies to a individual. The notion of effective counsel will also be defined by the Court. The Sixth Amendment was long interpreted as only meaning the right to counsel of ones choice and at ones own expense. It has since come to mean the right to appointed counsel for those who cannot afford one. The shift came in Powell v. Alabama, 287 U.S. 45 (1932), or the famous Scottsboro Case. The convictions in that case (of several black youths accused of raping two white women) were overturned on ground that the defendants did not receive a fair trial because their right to effective counsel were denied. In Betts v. Brady, 316 U.S. 455 (1942), the Supreme Court ruled that only in special circumstances, should counsel be appointed. However, in Gideon v. Wainwright, 372 U.S. 335 (1963), the Court overturned Betts and extended the right to counsel to the accused in all states in all criminal cases. In Argersinger v. Hamlin, 407 U.S. 25 (1972) the Court applied the right to counsel to all offenses involving the possibility of imprisonment. The Sixth Amendment right to counsel has came along way. The Sixth Amendment guarantees an accused the assistance of counsel, the rights to be informed of charges and to confront accusers, as well as a right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury in all criminal cases. I’m not talking about words like bare and bear, which are both English words acceptable to an automatic spelling program, but words like definite and separate, which have no homophones, and typos like standarad for standard (one of my own recent embarrassments). Writers need to keep two things in mind about spell checkers: 1. They cannot catch any misspellings if a writer doesn’t let the application run. 2. They cannot be entirely trusted to catch every spelling error. For whatever reasonoverconfidence or sloththe same misspellings continue to appear in business emails, advertising copy, resumes, and on blog sites. The writer’s best defense is to take a good look at the most frequent misspellings and zero in on every letter in the word. Mastering a few at a time is a better way to approach the task than scanning long lists. The type of social injustice that is shown in this poem is towards children and how they are treated badly and used for the churches gain. The themes in this poem are of repression and greed, these are shown by how the children are being used to up the churches reputation by helping the children, and also how the church have used there power take and use the children. The structure of the of the poem keeps the poem in short basic line of words, sort of like how a small child would think, this puts you in a childs shoes and make you feel more empathy for them. The four quatrains also have the same effect of a childs mind by of staying on one subject for a short time. The quatrains are quite regular and strict giving you and impression of the repression of the church making sure there is no thinking against them. The rhyming is simple and regular. This could give the impression of a controlled person always having to think the same way and keep to the same rhythm or something bad will happen. The poetic techniques used in the poem are clever and well used to create emotion in the reader bringing out different feelings and certain biases towards certain opinions. The juxtaposition in the poem is very emotive like the comparison of a rich and fruitful land being disapproved of because of the babes the are fed with a cold and usurious hand this comparison has put the priests in the worst possible light as if this land is so rich and fruitful then why cant they show some compassion, warmth if it doesnt effect them in the slightest. Another juxtaposed stanza is the sentence is that trembling cry a song? Can it be a song of joy? this sentence juxtaposes the songs that the children sing it that it could a song of over flowing joy or a song of great sadness this bring a feeling of pity into the reader for the children as a cry being called a song is something that only the most evil people would say. This then again puts the priest in a bad light as they are forcing children to sing a song of sadness but call it a song of joy. The repetition in the poem emphasises the sadness and despair in the poem like the repetition for the sun not shining and then something bad happening in stead like it raining. The alliteration enhances the effect of the children suffering going on non stop and never ending like the alliteration in bleak and bare theses pieces of alliteration effect the readers feelings towards the children by makes they more bias towards them. The imagery in this poem is good because its create two different images one for greatness and prosperity and one of sadness and poverty these to images are about the same thing these images are contrast and the better one questioned to see if it is a real while the other images is meant to show the truth and a poverty that is there. The imagery also gives us a visual insight to the childrens life by describing it as the field bleak and bare and their ways are filled with thorns this visual description makes us feel sad for the children. This could also be compared to Jesus crown of thorns and his hard life and how they are being put into the public eye for the wrong reasons. The musical is effective in the poem because of how it contrasts what is actually happening and what the priests want to happen like how the want the children to appear happy to promote god to the people so the people come to church and the priests gain money when really the children get no after and are again just left to be abused. The language and syntax in this poem is simple but still very effective it what it meant to do. It is simple because it is not meant for one particular audience it meant for everyone so keeping it simple make this poem readable for everyone this creates an effect on all people as the rich and supposedly more intelligent dont get all think thats its just a plead to them and the poor and supposedly stupid do not feel left out and unwanted. So this brings the rich down to earth, and brings the poor to the same level the rich are on so they are a level playing field. The language is mostly simple with a few complex words this is again an effort to get everyone to understand the poem and be able appreciate it. The lack of complexity in the poem contributes to the meaning because it reflects the children and how they are simple but need to be cared for. The tone of poem is sad for the children and angry at the people who did this to them. The effect of having this tone make the reader for empathy for the children but it is then a warning and a telling off for the people who did it. The mood this sets is a mood of intensity because of it hate for the people who use the children. The authorial intent in this poem is to get across the point that the children are not happy just sad and abused, and the priests arent what they seem to be. The poem is effective in doing this because of its imagery and poetic techniques, the imagery and poetic techniques are effective because the imagery get across the essential parts of what the author wants to say then the techniques emphasise them. Garden of love The subject of this poem is the repression of freedom and the controlling power of the church and how it takes over. The social in justice show is the repression of the people and how they freedom is taken. The injustice that religion brings upon the people is highlighted in this poem by how it takes over with no question against it when the church is meant to present freedom to the people. It also shows the repression of the people by tell us about how everything the people had it take and converted then the conversion is told to be good. The themes in this poem are repression, controlling dominance and injustice these are shown by how no matter what the church does it is never wrong and how the church is unjust by taking things that are to taken. The structure of this poem is a simple three, 4 lined stanza, these stanzas get worst and worst as you go along adding to the meaning of the poem by reflecting what the church does by how the church just does worst and worst things to abuse the people. The rhyming in this poem make the church seems repetitive and the same all the time because the rhyming is repetitive and simple. The poetic techniques that the poem uses are alliteration, repetition and juxtaposition. The alliteration in the poem enhances the effects of the words by having a build up effect. The repetition in the poem is mainly in the last stanza where and is repeat 4 times and again it has a build up effect on the churches injustice to the people. The imagery in the poem is very strong and emotive. Like the flowers being destroyed and juxtaposed against the graves this creates a feeling of anger of how the church come a destroy like and naturally freedom of everything a bring only death and order and even after death things are still order like how graves have a specific set up. The imagery of the chapel is very strict and regimented with its controlling power. Also with the chapel having thou shall not write over the door promote control as it is an order and does not promote freedom it just show that religion is about what you cant do not what you can. The line priests in black gowns walking their rounds this suggests that the priests are corrupt because they were black instead of a pure white like there meant to be. Also the walking there rounds makes them sound like there patrolling the people making sure that they do not fall out of line and do what the priests want. This then adds the controlling effect that the church has. The language and syntax in this are good because the short sentence make the reader feel the controlling presence of the church only allowing a certain amount of words from the author. The language in this poem is effective because the author uses simple word and put them together to make complex meanings like black gowns this suggests evil and corruption, black is also a dominate colour making the church seem even more controlling. The tone of the poem is of anguish the anguish the author has for his special place of freedom and love being taken over and replaced by control and fake love. The mood that the mood creates is disgust for the church of how they could destroy something as pure as the garden of love, and then replace with fake purity shadowed by corruption. The authorial intent of the poem is that the author wants the reader to understand that the church does not enlighten and love but shadow the people with a cold, corrupt binding grip. It is effective in this because of its description of how the church destroys the garden and replaced with total order and darkness.

Adolescent Psychology midterm

Identity formation is a complex and multifaceted process for adolescents, particularly during middle school and early high school. Therefore, it is far more likely that students who appear disengaged to school faculty and administrators are actually navigating the multiple pathways to finding their own unique identities. It is simply unfair to assume that a student is not personally motivated when he or she is constructing an identity that reflects diverse social and/or cultural backgrounds.Manila's Squad Nanas writes about a student named Amanda in her article regarding detent identities in learning contexts. Amanda is a highly achieving student â€Å"who spent her time In class appearing ‘disengaged†. Although Amanda performed near the top of her class, her academic success did not seem to reflect her classroom behavior. However, Manta's identity was shaped by the people she interacted with, particularly her peers. Nanas states, â€Å"People act in accordance with the ir local settings, and†¦ E cannot assume the meaning of those behaviors or determine which ones are identity relevant, and in which ways, without a perspective on what they mean In the local 2010). Therefore, it is a detriment to students eke Amanda and the ones at the tutoring program to suggest that their own lack of motivation Is at the root of their apparent disengagement. Rather, It Is relative to the context they live in. In Nanas†s article, Amanda self-identified as smart, and her peers looked to her for academic help.However, researcher field notes described Manta's apparent disengagement, involving the passing of notes and answering her cell phone, which seemed â€Å"incongruous with [her] perception of herself and others' perceptions of her as an exceptionally competent 2010). However, Nanas later explains that the school Amanda attended â€Å"had nonstandard norms for detent attendance, engagement. And conduct†(Nasal, 2010) that made Manta's behaviors n ot an indication of disengagement or low performance.Nazi's article suggests that students' level of perceived engagement depends on the norms and standards of the school they attend. Another identity-related factor to take into account is that students are finding a safe group to identify with and are simultaneously negotiating â€Å"the persistent adolescent endeavor to define, overdriven, and redefine themselves and each other In often ruthless and Brown). Students must grapple with various social groups and the labels that accompany them, like â€Å"socks† and â€Å"brains†.Particularly in middle school, â€Å"younger students, like those in 7th grade, prefer' to be normal, while more mature brains felt more comfortable with being brainy†. Therefore, it seems logical that the students at this tutoring program appear disengaged because they are managing their own identities, and therefore not acting overly enthused about learning so as not to appear â€Å"t oo brainy'. Dwellings students as unmotivated Ignores their searches for a â€Å"safe group identity' to belong to, and acting too enthusiastic about schoolwork may hearten their place in a social group with which theft like to identify.It's also feasible that students appear disengaged not due to lack of motivation, but because a key aspect of identity formation is questioning authority as they find their unique and authentic selves. â€Å"When adolescents express unpopular opinions, revolutionary normative expectations, they are trying on possible selves and testing the boundaries of their environment as part of their psychosocial moratorium†¦ In fact, that is part of their developmental Job. To dismiss such experimentation†¦ Is to devalue the unique opening this developmental era represents†.In short, students are investigating potential selves, attempting to find a peer group to which they belong, and Jumping over the hurdles of adolescence. When tutors at this middle school in Longboat dismiss their students as disengaged due to decreased motivation, they are assuming a deficit view of students and not taking identity formation into account. In the 1999 article by Cooper et al regarding being brokers for students, they explain that the transition from elementary to middle school is a crucial time in which students begin to define their own goals and look up to adults, including teachers ND tutors.

Should Intel adopt its Intel Inside campaign for use with its non-PC processor products? What other marketing strategies might the company employ? The Intel Inside program was widely regarded as a success and Intel became a lightning rod for this electronics revolution and paving the way for the computer to become more commonplace in the home and in business. While the Intel Inside Program continues to evolve, it will remain true to its heritage of promoting: â€Å"technology leadership,† â€Å"quality† and â€Å"reliability. † These features will be as important to online users and high-end server buyers today. The brand with an estimated worth of $17. 8 billion and expect to increase in the years to come. Intel recognized that they are in the ever changing global environment and planned to broaden its focus on other non-PC processor products, e. g. fax modems, LAN administration software etc. This is Intel to broaden its product profolio into different categories from its traditional processors and it is a new challenge for the company as well. In fact, the â€Å"Intel Inside† campaign focused solely on the company's microprocessors, such as its popular Pentium line of chips. When Intel broadens its focus to other platforms–not just the microprocessor, the new campaign and new logo is need for better reflecting this change. This will help aligning the brand strategy with its platform strategy. As they evolve as a company, it makes sense to evolve the brand supporting with the new compaign. Thus, retiring the â€Å"Intel Inside† campaign by redesigning a unique marketing program to launch its extension, which may better reflecting its product attributes, might be a wise decision and a drive for the company to leap forward into a new technological age. In the meanwhile, the company can take the leverage advantages heritage from the success of the previous program transferring to these non-pc processor products through the branding extension. Since successful brand extension occurs when the parent brand is seen as having favorable association and there is the perception of fit between parent brand and extension product. Given the favorable, positive and unique associations of the Intel brand to the mind of consumers, we believe the Intel brand name may offer many potential benefits in this extension and it would continue to receive its success as previous as well. This is also an excellent opportunity for the company to identify new and completed different way to use the brand at full potential. However, the success of the new program is highly depending on the marketing efforts, a unique and innovative marketing program as well as with huge investment projected in long term view in the new campaign in order to differentiate from its competitor. Instead of only focusing in microprocessor computer industry, we highly recommend the company should broaden its product range into other potential industry, such as, communication, household appliance industry and entertainment communication etc. and to widen its products in the existing profolio for capturing the potential heritage in the brand for consumer’s choice. Given its leading position in the world, we believe Intel can negotiate with big communication corporations, household appliance companies like Samsung, Sharp, Philips, Panasonic for different profitable co-operation or membership programs. Of the two, the older term is jury-rigged, a nautical term dating from the days of sail. Because they were often damaged in storms, sailing ships carried a spare mast called the jury-mast. Apart from scholarly speculation, the etymology of jury in this context is unknown. The jury-mast was like a spare tire, to be used only in an emergency and replaced by the real thing as soon as possible. The adjective jury-rigged came to be applied to anything intended to be of temporary use. This also indicates that I am a lot more transparent when it comes to showing my emotions. In my social ski lls, my friend gave me a higher score than what I gave myself. It suggests that while I do not have that much confidence in my social skills, I actually am able to do quite well in this aspect based on my friend’s assessment. ...
